Popular Builder’s Boneyard Garage Sale returns with outstanding DIY deals

boneyard 14-1COLUMBUS, OH — The BIA of Central Ohio announced today that its Professional Women in Building Council will hold its award-winning Builder’s Boneyard Garage Sale on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at OSU Airport’s Don Scott Field, Hangar 1.  The second annual Builder’s Boneyard will feature a long list of donated home improvement items, most of which are new. Last year, available items included everything from doors, windows, fire pits and trim, to cabinets, appliances, plumbing fixtures, draperies and many other new, high-end home-related pieces. This year’s Boneyard is expected to include similar items, with the addition of many home decor objects — all offered at dramatically reduced prices.

Proceeds from the sale are donated to the BIA Foundation. In 2014, the Builder’s Boneyard raised more than $14,000 for the BIA Foundation, which offers scholarships to local students. BIA partner Habitat for Humanity Mid-Ohio also benefits from the Builder’s Boneyard, as unsold items are donated to its ReStore to help fund Habitat programs, which help provide safe, quality and affordable homes for area families in need.

“Last year’s Builder’s Boneyard Garage Sale completely exceeded all expectations,” said Alice Wissman, chair of the BIA’s Professional Women in Building council and project manager with Jimenez-Haid Custom Builders. “In fact, it was so successful that we had to move to an airport hangar, which we plan on filling with loads of outstanding DIY deals this August.”

Wissman added that the Central Ohio PWB was recognized as the 2014 Outstanding Council of the Year, receiving the national association’s Innovative Program Award for the Builder’s Boneyard. With some three dozen local members and opportunities for women in building on the rise, the PWB is a group of professionals who accent BIA membership, offering opportunities for women in the building industry to network, do business and enhance each other’s communities.

Since 1943, the Building Industry Association of Central Ohio (BIA) has represented single- and multi-family homebuilders, developers, remodelers, building industry suppliers and related professionals.  The BIA fosters regional economic development, creating a healthy environment for new homeownership and home improvement.
